An international organization to act as a ‘clearing house’ for ideas, plans and proposals relating to the development of world tourism, is to be established before the end of this year. The Global Centre for Tourism Resilience and Crisis Management will be based at the Mona Campus of the University of the West Indies in Jamaica.
To hear Jamaica’s Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett tell it, the industry is healthy and growing. In 2017 Jamaica’s tourist industry experienced “phenomenal growth,” Minister Bartlett told a group of more than 30 travel writers and other journalists assembled at the Puerto Rico Convention Center in San Juan for Caribbean Travel Marketplace 2018, an annual gathering of regional tourism VIPs.
