Jamaica Ramps Up Bird FLU Prevention Strategy

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Amid confirmation of the first human case of the H5N1 strain of bird flu in Brazil, Jamaica’s Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining is intensifying its efforts to keep the virus at bay. The ministry, through its Veterinary Services Division (VSD), has adopted a strict prevention strategy to protect the local poultry industry from the highly contagious Avian Influenza virus.

UN Says Health Care Situation in Haiti is Getting Worse

UNITED NATIONS – The United Nations Friday said that across Haiti, access to healthcare is shrinking and that the situation is particularly acute in the Port-au-Prince Metropolitan Area, where 42 per cent of the healthcare facilities remain closed.

Caribbean Has Made Advances in Improving Mental Health Care

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados – The 69th annual health research conference of the Trinidad-based Caribbean Pubic Health Agency (CARPHA) began here on Thursday, with delegates being told that the region has made some advances in improving mental health care, particularly in mental health legislation.
