Bahamian Olympic Champion Steven Gardiner Joins Star-Studded Field For Miami Grand Slam

MIRAMAR, Florida – Bahamian 400m Olympic and World Champion  Steven Gardiner has signed on as a racer for the remainder of the 2025 Grand Slam track season, which will get underway with its second stop in Miami at the Ansin Sports complex here from May 2-4.

stevengaSteven Gardiner will run in the Men’s long sprint group at the Miami Grand Slam.The Bahamian superstar, who also boasts Olympic and World Relay medals, will replace Quincy Hall in the men’s long sprints race group, going head-to-head with rivals Matthew Hudson-Smith, Muzala Samukonga, and Trinidadian Jereem Richards.

Gardiner, who is one of the Caribbean’s best quarter-milers, says he is eagerly anticipating his debut at the Miami Slam.

“I’m thrilled to join Grand Slam Track as a racer. After watching the Kingston Slam, I knew I had to be part of this exciting new format. Competing against the world’s best regularly is an incredible opportunity, and I can’t wait to put on a show in Miami.”

In the meantime, Grand Slam Track unveiled its full lineup of 96 elite athletes set to compete at the Miami Slam.

The event will feature a mix of signed Racers and Challengers, including global stars like Isabella Whittaker, Alaysha Johnson, Freweyni Hailu, Peter Bol, Trey Cunningham, and Kendall Ellis.

However, the competition will be without several key athletes, including Racers Devon Allen, Clément Ducos, Jasmine Jones, and Luis Grijalva, as well as previously announced Challenger Claudia Hollingsworth, all sidelined due to injuries.

With competitors hailing from 24 nations, the Miami Slam underscores Grand Slam Track’s growing influence as a premier global track league, according to league commissioner Michael Johnson.
