Barbados Looking For Home-Field Advantage At the Caribbean Amateur Golf Championships

CHRIST CHURCH, Barbados – Barbados is gearing up to welcome the region’s top golfers as it hosts the Caribbean Amateur Golf Championships (CAGC) from July 2-4 at the Barbados Golf Club in Durants.

golfcluThis marks the sixth time the island has hosted the prestigious tournament since 1974, reinforcing its reputation as a premier golfing destination in the Caribbean.

After the pandemic forced the cancellation of Barbados’ planned hosting in 2020, this year’s event is a highly anticipated opportunity to showcase the island’s world-class golf courses and renowned hospitality.

Team Barbados is eager to compete on home soil, with golfer Xzavier Wiggins expressing excitement about the tournament’s long-awaited return.

“It’s an honor. It’s been so long since we’ve hosted the CAGC, and after years of delays, having it finally come to Barbados feels incredible. Playing on home turf is special, and we’re ready to make the most of it.”

The team has been preparing rigorously, with Wiggins highlighting their strong camaraderie and shared determination.

“We’ve put in the work week after week, learning each other’s games and growing closer as a team. Heading into this week, our goal is to stay unified, push each other forward, and give our absolute best.”

Barbados will be banking on the likes of captain Simon Proverbs and Preston Jackman, along with Robert Edgehill in the men’s section, with Emily Odwin expected to fly the flag in the ladies’ division.
