Chris Martin Wins Historic Seventh T&T Golf Open Title

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad – Trinidad & Tobago’s Chris Martin created history when he captured the T&T Golf Open for a seventh time when the tournament climaxed at the St Andrews Course on Sunday.

chrismmChris MartinCompeting in the Professional division, Martin scored 71 on Sunday’s final day to finish on 284, six strokes clear of his nearest challenger Chris Richards Sr.

Martin overtook Richards Sr for the lead on the penultimate day with an impressive 68 (four under par) and held on to take the crown.

Jamaican Wesley Brown finished in third with a score of 302.

T&T’s Chris Richards Jr comfortably won the Championship division (289) ahead of American Nikita Gubenko (300) and Puerto Rico’s Amalio Vega (305).

Meanwhile, 14-year-old Ethan Collier upstaged his older rivals to secure the First Flight with 321 after pulling away from the first and second-day leader Dinesh Jackree, who finished second with a score of 326.

Another 14-year-old Ben Laughlin was third (330).

West Indies cricket captain Darren Sammy had a strong showing on the last day to finish fourth on 344.

Nandlal Ramlakhan dominated the Second Flight (353) to finish ahead of Jamaican Owen McPherson on 359 and Kisson Gannes (360).

Clint Alfred (307) rallied to win the Seniors division ahead of Neil Lutchmansingh (311) and Zeke Percival (323) of St Kitts and Nevis.
