PEMBROKE, Bermuda – Guyana women’s national team secured a bronze medal at the recently concluded Pan American Hockey Challenge Series when they came from behind to edge Bermuda 2-1 here Saturday.
Guyana women celebrate after scoring the winning goal against Bermuda.Playing at the National Sports Centre, the home side took the lead in the opening quarter when Georgia Harris beat Guyana’s goalkeeper Alysa Xavier to find the back of the net.
Despite several attempts by the visitors, Bermuda sternly defended their one goal advantage until two goals in the fourth quarter decided the contest.
Guyana’s Madison Fernandes made it 1-1 at the start of the fourth quarter before Abosaide Cadogan scored the decider near the end of regulation time.
It was a commendable performance by the Guyanese, who ended the event with two wins, two draws, and one defeat.
Xavier took home the award for Best Goalkeeper in the tournament.
