Guyana Ends Seven-Year Drought to Capture Caribbean Boxing Championship

GEORGETOWN, Guyana – Guyana’s pugilists produced a dominant display to capture the Caribbean Boxing Championship (CBC) which concluded over the weekend in St Lucia.

guyyboGuyana’s victorious team after capturing the Caribbean Boxing ChampionshipGuyana topped the medal charts for the first time since 2018, capturing nine gold, three silver and two bronze medals, well ahead of second-placed Trinidad and Tobago which claimed five gold, five silver and three bronze, while the hosts were third after winning two gold medals.

Alicia Jackman, Desmond Amsterdam, Colin Lewis, Kevin Allicock, Terron Wintz, Simeon Haymer, Joshua Tambaran, Abiola Jackman and Kenyon Britton, all copped gold medals for the winners.

Competing in the 57kg elite division, Allicock registered a split decision win over Trinidad’s Anthony Joseph, while Amsterdam also won via split decision over Trinidad and Tobago Aaron Prince.

Colin Lewis took a points decision win over St Lucia’s Jastice Surage in the elite 67kg division, while Jackman fought hard to beat Antigua and Barbuda’s Chantal Johnson in the women elite 75kg finals

Allicock was adjudged the Best Elite Boxer in the championship, while Wintz claimed Best Youth Boxer.
