Saint Lucia Joins International Surfing Association, Set to Make Historic Debut at World Junior Championship
CALIFORNIA, USA – The International Surfing Association (ISA) has welcomed Saint Lucia as its 117th member federation, marking a significant step in the global growth of the sport.
The island nation is now the 11th Caribbean member of the ISA, highlighting the region’s rising influence in competitive surfing.
With 158 kilometers of stunning coastline, the newly formed Saint Lucia Surfing Association (SLSA) is committed to nurturing talent, fostering competitive success, and protecting its marine ecosystems through sustainable practices.
Backed by the ISA, the SLSA aims to become a powerhouse in Caribbean surfing by developing athletes of all ages and promoting environmental stewardship.
ISA President Fernando Aguerre celebrated the inclusion of its newest member. “Welcoming Saint Lucia into the ISA is a thrilling moment. The Caribbean’s surfing evolution has been incredible, and Saint Lucia’s wave-rich shores offer boundless opportunities for surfers across generations. Supporting emerging nations like this is central to our mission of building a better world through surfing.”
SLSA President Shaid Frank Ambler called the membership a “historic milestone,” emphasizing its impact on local athletes.
“This opens doors for our surfers, coaches, and fans, providing access to international competitions, training, and global recognition. It’s especially meaningful as we prepare to send our first-ever junior team to the ISA World Junior Surfing Championship, a proud moment that showcases Saint Lucia’s potential.”
