MIAMI – After decades of decline, manufacturing employment in Miami-Dade County is showing signs of a comeback, increasing 14.5 percent from 35,738 workers in 2012 to more than 40,800 in 2017, according to a new report from FIU.

In June 2019, Miami-Dade was the third largest metro area in year-over-year job gains in Florida, following Orlando-Kissi­­mmee-Sanford and Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater. The County created 24,900 new non-agricultural payroll jobs (not seasonally adjusted) from June 2018 to June 2019, which was a 2.1 percent increase. The jobs were created in different industries with the highest job creation occurring in Education & Health Services (9,400), Leisure and Hospitality (5,400), Transportation, Warehousing & Utilities (4,800), Construction (3,400), Professional & Business Services (1,600), Other Services (1,400), Information (400) and Wholesale Trade (400). Unemployment rates were lower in April in 10 states and stable in 40 states and the District of Columbia, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Four states had jobless rate decreases from a year earlier, 1 state had an increase, and 45 states and the District had little or no change. The national unemployment rate declined by 0.2 percentage point from March to 3.6 percent and was 0.3 point lower than in April 2018.
