Sustainability Exhibition Opens at UWI Antigua Campus
ST. JOHN’S, Antigua — The Government of Antigua and Barbuda, in collaboration with regional partners, will host a 3-day Environmental Sustainability Exhibition from Monday at the University of the West Indies (UWI) Five Islands Campus.
The exhibition, held alongside the 118th Special Meeting of the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED) on Environment and Sustainable Development, aims to bring together regional policymakers, development agencies, academics, and local innovators to promote environmental resilience and sustainable growth throughout the Caribbean.
Open to the public from 9:00am to 5:00pm each day, the event will showcase interactive exhibits, live demonstrations, and community-driven solutions across key sectors such as climate change adaptation, renewable energy, marine conservation, waste management, and green construction.
The Opening Ceremony will take place on Monday, April 28 at 9:00 AM, featuring remarks from CARICOM and OECS officials, government representatives, and leaders in the field of environmental sustainability. A guided tour of the exhibition will follow for delegates and invited guests.
“This exhibition is not only a celebration of Caribbean resilience and innovation,” said a spokesperson from the Department of Environment, “it is also a call to action—encouraging our communities, especially youth, to engage with sustainable development and climate-smart solutions.”
The exhibition will feature a dynamic mix of regional and local exhibitors. Nine organizations from Antigua and Barbuda will join forces with agencies from across the region, including those under the OECS umbrella, to highlight the Caribbean’s progress in key environmental sectors.
A major highlight will be the display of student innovations. Young participants from vocational and training programs, such as the Climate Leaders Fellowship Program, will present a range of practical projects. These include hurricane shutters, park benches, and school bookshelves, all built using sustainable materials and supported by the GCF Build Project.
School engagement is another central focus of the exhibition. Groups from primary and secondary schools across Antigua and Barbuda will attend guided tours designed to expose students to career opportunities in green industries and deepen their understanding of the importance of environmental stewardship.
Visitors will also experience a variety of interactive demonstrations. Hands-on displays will showcase the latest in solar energy technology, eco-friendly construction tools, and waste recycling innovations, offering practical insights into how sustainable technologies can be applied in everyday life.
The Environmental Sustainability Exhibition promises to be an inspiring and educational event, celebrating innovation, empowering communities, and charting a path toward a greener, more resilient Caribbean future.
