Rapper Muka and Jamaican Deejay Dizzle JA Collaborate on New Dancehall Song 'Aye You'
During her recent performance at the Pool Party Sundayz Summer Series in downtown Los Angeles, rapper Muka made such a strong impression on Jamaican promoter/deejay Dizzle JA, that he suggested they collaborate on a song.
She agreed and the result is Aye You, a track produced by Copilot Records. Released on August 1, it is Muka’s debut venture into dancehall music.
“I have limited knowledge of dancehall music but I always admired it and Jamaican culture,” she said.
Although Dizzle JA has dabbled with hip hop, Aye You is his first time sharing the mic with a female artist. Blending dancehall and hip hop, the artist noted, can be mutually beneficial.
“It’s always good for dancehall artists to do collaborations with different genres, especially hip hop artists,” said Dizzle JA, who is from St. Thomas parish in eastern Jamaica.
Muka is from Long Beach in Los Angeles, which is the birthplace of the West Coast rap and hip hop and G-funk movements during the 1990s. The area produced major acts including Snoop Dogg, Nate Dogg, Warren G and Daz Dillinger.
While she was weaned on those sounds, Muka said she listened to some dancehall music. She points to Buju Banton, Beenie Man and Sean Paul among her favorite Jamaican artists.
