‘Music For A King’, A Concert Honoring Fathers, Takes Place on June 21 at Hollywood Community Church Auditorium
‘Music For A King’, a concert honoring fathers, takes place on June 21 at Hollywood Community Church Auditorium. It is organized by the Legacy Learning Foundation (LLF), a non-profit based in South Florida.
Lorraine Tracey - Director Legacy Learning Foundation, IncThe event — which features several acclaimed artists — will also raise funds which benefits the LLF’s youth programs in Miramar and Jamaica.
Lorraine Tracey, a director at the 14 year-old organization, said the decision was taken to salute fathers whose contributions are often overlooked. She said ‘Music For A King’ is being deliberately held six days after Father’s Day, so fathers could spend time with their families.
Willie Stewart and Friends, led by former Third World drummer Willie Stewart, are part of the live entertainment. His band includes guitarists Wayne Armond and Robert Browne, bassist Frank Burt, keyboardists Leroy Romans and Charles Williams, saxophonist Jesse Jones and vocalists Patrick Eulysees Pinkney and Nicole Yarling.
Also down to perform are Reverend Huntley Brown, a respected pianist, singers Bunny Rose and Joan Myers.
“Our musicians are one in mind and heart with the vision and the mission of the Legacy Learning Foundation. Every one of the cadre has the burning passion to stand in the gap for the children, and they put their talent behind their talk,” said Tracey. “Willie Stewart, for example, has been collaborating with the Foundation for over five years, visiting schools as well as the camp to teach music and drumming in particular as a means of expression and to develop mindfulness techniques for the children.”
Funds from ‘Music For A King’ will assist the Summer Enrichment Camp and Financial Literacy Course for high school students in Miramar, as well as table tennis and church restoration programs in Jamaica.
