Barbados' Parliament Gives Green Light to Republican Status

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados – Prime Minister Mia Mottley says much thought has gone into the decision to transition Barbados to a parliamentary republic, even as Opposition Leader, Bishop Joseph Atherley, raised concerns over the legality of the government’s intended move, despite declaring full support for the impending status.

Demings, Colleagues Urge DHS to Halt Deportations to Haiti, Support Diaspora Following Earthquake

ORLANDO, FL – Today, U.S. Rep. Val Demings (FL-10), Co-Chair of the House Haiti Caucus, joined 55 of her colleagues to call on the Biden Administration to immediately halt deportations to Haiti and take urgent action to address the concerns of the Haitian Diaspora after a 7.2 magnitude earthquake devastated Haiti last month. The lawmakers’ letter follows the Administration’s resumption of deportation flights to Haiti and as thousands of Haitian migrants continue to await an opportunity to make an asylum claim at the border.

Davis Sworn in as Prime Minister of Bahamas

NASSAU, Bahamas – The chairman of the Progressive Liberal Party (PLP), Fred Mitchell, says he believes that the new government of Prime Minister Phillip “Brave” Davis, will be in place “certainly not beyond Saturday”.
