MONACO – Saint Lucian sprinter Julien Alfred along with Jamaicans Megan Tapper and Jordan Scott produced impressive performances on their way to gold medal winning showings at the Monaco Diamond League here on Friday.
Julien AlfredAlfred, the women’s Olympic 100 metres champion, put last week’s disappointment of being beaten at the Prefontaine Classic behind her, clocking 10.79 seconds to register a comfortable victory.
American Jacious Sears was a distant second in 11.02 seconds, while Zoe Hobbs of New Zealand grabbed bronze in 11.12 seconds.
Tapper, who recently captured her fourth Jamaican title, sped to victory in a personal best tying time of 12.34 seconds in the women’s 100-metre hurdles to relegate Ditaji Kambundji of Switzerland to second in 12.43 seconds and the Netherlands’ Nadine Visser to third in 12.56 seconds.
Meanwhile, Scott claimed gold in the men’s triple jump with a sensational leap measured at 17.52 metres, the second farthest jump in the world this year.
He was well ahead of Nigeria’s Yasser Mohammed Triki (17.23 metres), who claimed silver and Andy Díaz Hernández of Italy in 17.19 metres.
