Olympic Champion Julien Alfred Set For Showdown At Prefontaine Classic
EUGENE, Oregon - Reigning women’s 100m Olympic champion Julien Alfred is ready to take on the world’s best at the Prefontaine Classic this Saturday here at Hayward Field.
Julien Alfred is set to run at the Prefontaine Classic on Saturday. The 24-year-old St. Lucian sprint sensation will headline a star-studded field in what promises to be one of the most competitive races of the season, a crucial test ahead of September’s World Championships in Tokyo.
Alfred, undefeated in 2025 with three straight wins, faces a formidable challenge against U.S. stars Sha’Carri Richardson and Melissa Jefferson-Wooden.
Richardson, the 25-year-old defending world champion, and Jefferson-Wooden, 24, who clocked a world-leading 10.73 earlier this month, are both in peak form.
This clash features three of the fastest women in history. Richardson’s 10.65 from the 2023 World Championships ties her for fifth all-time, while Alfred’s Olympic-winning 10.72 places her joint-eighth.
Jefferson-Wooden’s recent blistering run matched Christine Arron’s long-standing record, further heating the rivalry.
Richardson boasts ten sub-10.80 performances since 2021, while Alfred has three and Jefferson-Wooden one. But this season, Alfred has been unstoppable, winning eight of her last nine 100m races, her only loss in that stretch coming at the hands of Richardson in Zurich last September.
