T & T Head Coach Demands Response From Team As Soca Warriors Face Haiti in Must-Win Gold Cup Clash
TEXAS, USA - Following a demoralizing 5-0 defeat to the USA in their Concacaf Gold Cup opener, Trinidad and Tobago’s senior men’s football team must regroup quickly as they take on Haiti in a pivotal Group D encounter today at 6:45 pm (TT time).
Dwight Yorke (l) and assistant coach Russell LatapyWith knockout stage hopes still alive, head coach Dwight Yorke has challenged his squad to show resilience and character in what he describes as a must-win showdown.
“After a defeat, you look for a response, both in performance and mentality,” Yorke said during the pre-match press conference.
“We’ve analysed our mistakes, worked on improvements, and I believe the players are ready. I have full confidence in them.”
Both teams enter the match desperate for redemption, with Haiti also suffering an opening loss, a narrow 1-0 defeat to tournament invitees Saudi Arabia. However, Yorke sees this as the ultimate test of his team’s resolve.
Historically, Haiti has had the upper hand in recent meetings. They defeated TT 2-0 in the 2013 Gold Cup, secured a 1-0 win in 2016 Copa America qualifying, and edged a thrilling 4-3 victory in the 2017 Caribbean Cup playoff.
“We know Haiti’s style; they are aggressive, urgent, and determined. Our players must meet that with equal hunger and desire. This is the perfect challenge to prove our mentality, and I believe we’re prepared.”
