MIAMI-DADE – The Miami-Dade County Commission on Dec. 15 approved a resolution sponsored by Chairman-elect Jose “Pepe” Diaz to allow County employees to contribute the monetary value of their accrued holiday and annual leave time to the county’s Emergency Disaster Relief Fund to help Central America recover from the devastating effects of Hurricanes Eta and Iota.

BROWARD COUNTY, FL - Commissioners are considering designating June 19^th, also known as Juneteenth, an official paid holiday for Broward County. Juneteenth commemorates the official end of slavery in Texas on June 19, 1865. President Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation had officially outlawed slavery in 1863, but it took more than two years for slavery to come to an end throughout the United States.

Miami, - Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Hialeah Campus’ Impact Committee will host Racism and Its Effects on Society, an online presentation by lifelong educator, author, and award-winning anti-racism activist  Dr. Jane Elliott on Wednesday, Dec. 2, at 7 p.m. Dr. Elliott will discuss race and politics, combating racism, and how race and racial inequality have shaped American history. She will also focus on unlearning racial biases and recognizing its impact on our communities. There will be a Q & A session following the presentation.
