Che Cowan Releases New Book 'Beyond One Leader', Recognizing the Challenges of Modern Churches

Che Cowan is old enough to remember the days when a pastor did just about everything in their church. They were counsellor, spiritual leader and even took care of its monetary affairs.

chowanAt times, that multi-tasking put a strain on relations with their flock, something Cowan observed. In Beyond One Leader: Building a Church That Multiplies Leaders, his first book, the ordained minister of religion shares solutions to those challenges.

The 166-page book was released on Amazon on August 31. It was officially launched in Jamaica on October 5 at Church On The Rock in Ocho Rios.

Cowan describes ‘Beyond One Leader’ as “a guide to leadership development.” It offers fellow pastors ideas on how to manage their time and inspire a new generation of leaders.

“It’s an easy-read, I wrote it like me and a pastor sitting down and having coffee. I’m very excited about the book, because it’s really helping you to grow as a leader,” he said.

Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Cowan is senior pastor of Life Church in Victorville, California. He is the son of Tommy Cowan, a famous Jamaican impresario who has worked in management positions with Bob Marley, Dennis Brown, Inner Circle and Ras Michael and The Sons of Negus.

He got the idea for a book after the death of Dr. David Keane, his pastor and mentor, in 2014. That loss left him at a crossroads.

“I asked myself, ‘how do I learn leadership without his guidance’? The book tries to help people who find themselves in similar situations,” said Cowan.

His book has received favorable reviews, with Amazon touting it as a “practical and pastoral guide.”

Amazon added that: “Drawing from real ministry experience, church culture development, leadership pipelines, volunteer systems, and discipleship environments, this book helps pastors move from doing ministry alone to building a multiplying leadership culture.”
