Bahamian Rapper Starr Trilli Has New Song, 'Money Dance', Produced By Barry St. Louis
While she long admired Jamaican artists such as Buju Banton and Spice, it was not until this year that Bahamian rapper Starr Trilli recorded her first dancehall song. That experience whetted her appetite and inspired a follow-up.
Money Dance is the title of that track, which was released in late September. It is produced by Barry St. Louis, who is also from The Bahamas.
Starr Trilli was driven to cut another dancehall song, after the enthusiastic response to What A Gwan, a song she did with Max Wayne, a Jamaican artist.
“After receiving such amazing feedback and great response to that song, I decided to continue my journey with dancehall music. From there, I began creating diverse lyrics and styles specifically for the dancehall sound,” she disclosed. “Speaking patois (Jamaican dialect) in my dancehall songs also comes very naturally to me, which makes the writing process even more fun, expressive, and authentic.”
Based on YouTube figures, Money Dance has earned nearly 60,000 views since its release.
The song’s biggest response, Starr Trilli noted, is from one of social media’s biggest platforms.
“The response to Money Dance has been very inspiring, happy, positive, and most of all, motivating. The strongest enthusiasm has come from my TikTok fans. People are asking for more of the fire and energy that I bring forth through my music,” she said.
Starr Trilli is also from Freeport, which is located in Grand Bahama, one of the islands that comprise The Bahamas. Her early influences were compatriots like K.B. and Nishie L. S., who are exponents of the local Rake N’ Scrape sound.
She also points to Chaka Khan, Nicki Minaj, Vybz Kartel and Sizzla as influences.
