De Postman is Excited For Trinidad and Tobago Carnival
In February, De Postman plans to leave chilly Brooklyn, New York for the warmth of Trinidad and Tobago where Carnival will be in full swing. He plans to have a great time in his homeland.
De PostmanDe Postman is from Sangre Grande, a town in northeastern Trinidad. Although based in Brooklyn for several years, he maintains ties with Trinidad which is a potpourri of activity and color at Carnival time in February.
“Carnival is highly competitive, (there’s) a lot of good talent and the opportunity for local success is limited,” he said.
The singer has four songs currently on the market. They are Palm D Ting, Oh Na Na, Soca Army and Riot.
Palm D Ting is produced by Dennis Johnson, a veteran Jamaican producer based in South Florida who has dabbled with soca over the years. Oh Na Na is produced by Rapid Entertainment, while Soca Army and Riot are produced by fellow Trinidadian Carol Hodge.
Born Sherwin Rogers, De Postman has never competed in the Road March, blue riband event of Trinidad Carnival. Nevertheless, he looks forward to his annual pilgrimage to revel in the soca madness.
“Carnival to me is a season of feting, mingling with friends and family and freedom to celebrate life through playing Mas,” he said.
De Postman was weaned on traditional calypso and soca in Trinidad. His musical heroes include Bunji Garlin and his brother, Lyndon “Meshach” Rogers.
