For Jodian Pantry, 'My Christmas' Shows the Holiday is Still a Time For Showing Love
While the season is swept by commercialism, Christmas is still a time for showing love for Jodian Pantry. She expresses that sentiment on My Christmas.
Written and produced by Paul "Patchie" Wright, the song was composed with the singer in mind. According to her, "It was written to manifest a new and beautiful love story for me."
Pantry adds that My Christmas is also a personal statement.
"As I was singing, I immediately envisioned myself being in love and sharing my world with someone special,” she said. “After going through one too many heartbreaks, recording My Christmas made me feel peace. It made me feel hopeful again. I even found myself wishing for a miracle, for love to finally find me this season.”
It is her second Christmas song, the first being Christmas Joy which was released in 2022.
Pantry is from Clarendon, a rural parish in central Jamaica. She was raised in a Christian household that celebrated Christmas in traditional form.
"Growing up came with excitement as I used to anticipate my mother's cooking on Christmas Day and visiting Grandma," she said.
Her mainstream songs include covers of Michael Bolton's Back on My Feet Again and Bon Jovi's Bed of Roses, which she recorded with Noddy Virtue.
In terms of Yuletide songs, Pantry's favorites are standards such as Oh, Holy Night and Oh, Come all Ye Faithful.
