Kenne Blessin Combines Gospel and Soca in 'We Worship Riddim'
A fan of gospel music since his youth in Jamaica, Kenne Blessin grew to admire the frenetic sounds of soca while living in Antigua. He combines both genres for the We Worship Riddim, which was released in January.
The Atlanta-based Blessin assembled likeminded artists for the six-song EP which is produced by his Dacosta Music company.
According to Blessin, the We Worship Riddim was born during a conversation he had with Nanamous, his cousin and fellow recording artist. Nanamous also promotes gospel shows in Atlanta.
"He always told me he wanted to be on a soca/islands beat and then he heard this rhythm. I said to him, 'we should put more artists on it'. And that's how we choreographed a few of the artists he's worked with," said Blessin.
Most of the acts on We Worship Riddim are Jamaican. They are led by Kenne Blessin whose song is Where. We've Been Waiting is the title of a collaboration with Nanamous and Azizi.
We Worship You is by Uni'Verss, an American of Jamaican descent; My Cry by Cassandra Glory; Winning Season' by Lee Priest Johnson and The Moment by Israel Onova, who is from Nigeria.
The We Worship Riddim maintains a busy schedule for Kenne Blessin, who is from St. Thomas parish in eastern Jamaica. One year ago, he released Caught My Attention, his second album which was followed in September by the Blue Flame Riddim, a four-song EP he co-produced.
