Singer-Songwriter Chabano Nkani Salutes Dark-Skinned Women in 'Woman of My Dreams'

Women with light skin and long hair have been the beauty standard for the entertainment industry for over a century. Well into the 21st Century, that remains an unofficial policy of the music, movie and cosmetic sectors.

cholsingSinger-songwriter Chabano Nkani has a problem with such depictions. He salutes women of darker shade on Woman of My Dreams, his latest song.

The Jamaican artist, who is based in Connecticut, also wrote and produced the track which was released in May by his Isle of Springs Records.

“The song was definitely written to pay homage to the black woman. In the past, I have been with women of different races. However, the black/African woman undoubtedly has a special place in my heart,” said Chabano Nkani.

Woman of My Dreams is the follow-up to Close to You which came out early this year. Both songs are expected to be on his album, scheduled for release late this year.

Originally from Kingston, Chabano Nkani has covered just about every facet of the music business. He has been a recording artist for over 20 years; produced songs by other acts; and served as a road manager.

Some of his previous songs include Showers of Blessings, which was done for In The Streetz Records, and a cover of Kenny Rogers’ Write Your Name Across my Heart, produced by the B-Rich label.

As a producer, Chabano Nkani has worked with many top acts such as T.O.K, Warrior King, Luciano, Natural Black, Half Pint, Kirk Davis and Hawkeye. All of whom recorded songs for Isle of Springs Records.
