Bajan Jalon Samuels Wins Record-Setting Seventh Gold Cup Title

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados – Barbadian jockey Jalon Samuels produced a sensational performance aboard Public Sector to win the 43rd running of the Sandy Lane Gold Cup in record fashion here on Saturday.

jalonraRunning from Gate 8, Samuels timed his sprint down the stretch to perfection to pip Smokin T with Antonio Bishop in the saddle. It was the second straight year Smokin T finished runner-up in the Caribbean’s most prestigious horse race.

Jalon Samuels, seen here after winning the 2023 Sandy Lane Gold Cup, added another title in 2026.

Bulldoze, who dictated the pace for the majority of the race placed third.

It was Samuels’ seventh title, making him the winningest jockey in the event, having also crossed the finish first in 2012, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2020 and 2023.
