TORTOLA, British Virgin Islands – The impact of emerging technologies on tourism-driven economies will be among the key topics when regional information, technology and media regulators convene here next weeks for the International Institute of Communications (IIC) Caribbean Chapter meeting.
The two-day conference, hosted by the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC), is scheduled for February 25 and 26 under the theme “Caribbean FutureScapes: Regulation at the Intersection of Technology, Tourism and Finance.”
The event will be held at the Peter Island Resort’s Tradewinds Conference Centre and will bring together information and communications technology (ICT), telecommunications and broadcast media regulators, along with senior managers and decision-makers from business, industry and government.
Participants are expected to examine key policy issues, debate regulatory solutions and explore innovations aimed at strengthening the Caribbean’s evolving regulatory environment.
Sessions will address converged regulation for small island states, the effects of emerging technologies on tourism-based economies, fintech innovation, sustainable digital infrastructure development and satellite communication services.
The TRC said outcomes from the meeting are expected to inform policy recommendations designed to advance innovation, competition and consumer protection across Caribbean societies and economies.
Chief Executive Officer of the TRC, Guy Malone, said the commission is pleased to host the forum.
“As the BVI’s national regulator for telecommunications, the TRC is excited to host this prestigious forum, providing a platform for insightful exchange on how regulation can drive sustainable growth in our region,” Malone said.
“This event aligns with our mandate to promote telecommunications development and advise on forward-looking policies that benefit the BVI and the wider Caribbean community,” he added.
