PORT AU PRINCE, Haiti – US carrier, American Airlines will resume scheduled passenger service to Haiti on November 1, becoming the first United States carrier to announce the return of regular commercial flights to the French speaking Caribbean nation.
The airline said it will operate daily nonstop service between Miami International Airport and Cap-Haïtien using a Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.
Under the schedule, flights will depart Miami at 10:15 a.m. (local time) and arrive in Cap-Haïtien at 12:15 p.m. The return service will leave Cap-Haïtien at 1:15 p.m., arriving in Miami at 3:15 p.m.
The new route will provide travelers with a direct link between South Florida and northern Haiti while offering onward connections through American Airlines’ extensive domestic and international network from its Miami hub.
The service is expected to benefit the large Haitian diaspora in South Florida by making travel to northern Haiti more convenient and improving access for families, business travelers and visitors.
The resumption of flights also reinforces Miami’s role as American Airlines’ primary gateway to the Caribbean, where the carrier maintains one of the region’s largest international networks.
The announcement marks an important milestone in restoring international air connectivity to Haiti, with Cap-Haïtien increasingly serving as the country’s principal aviation gateway.
Industry observers say the return of scheduled U.S. airline service reflects the growing strategic importance of the northern city, reconnecting it directly with the United States after a prolonged disruption in commercial air service.
The renewed route is also expected to support tourism, commerce and family travel while improving access to one of Haiti’s most historic destinations.
For many members of the Haitian diaspora, the service offers a faster and more convenient way to visit relatives and communities in northern Haiti. For the country, it represents another step toward rebuilding international connectivity, while enhancing Cap-Haïtien’s position as a key gateway for travel to and from Haiti.
