Miami-Dade Parks Disability Services Presents a Trio of Free Events in March

MIAMI — March is National Developmental Disability Awareness Month. The month was officially declared by former U.S. President Ronald Reagan in 1987, asking everyone to provide “encouragement and opportunities” to help people with developmental disabilities improve their lives. In commemoration, the Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department’s Disability Services division, in its longstanding efforts to promote independence, inclusion and accessibility for people with disabilities, invites the community to attend these free adapted and inclusive special events:

Black History Month Closeout Celebration

MIAMI – As we closeout February’s Black History Month celebrations, the Miami-Dade Black Affairs Advisory Board (BAAB)invites you to enjoy Miami-Dade County’s Transit Expression, a group of transit employees whose mission is to bring joy to others through music and poetry. The festivities will take place from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 28 in the lobby of the Stephen P. Clark Center, 111 NW 1st Street, Miami, FL. 

Lighthouses of Biscayne Bay Cruise Will Take Place March 9

MIAMI — Departing from the Deering Estate on Saturday, March 9, this four-hour tour will allow you to experience Biscayne National Park in a new light! Guided by a Biscayne National Park Ranger, guests will journey through Biscayne Bay to see the iconic Cape Florida, Fowey Rocks and Boca Chita lighthouses and learn about the history that surrounds them.

District 10 Parks Getting Security Cameras

MIAMI – District 10 residents will be safer now while enjoying their County parks, thanks to County Commissioner Javier Souto. Security cameras are being installed in many of them.

Commission Recognizes MIA for Surpassing 45 Million Passengers

MIAMI-DADE – The Miami-Dade County Commission presented a proclamation to Miami International Airport Director Lester Sola on Feb. 20 to celebrate a major milestone in passenger traffic at MIA. The airport surpassed 45 million passengers in 2018 – an increase of nearly one million passengers over the previous year.

City of Miami Offers Free Tax Preparation Services to Residents

Miami, FL - As 2019 tax season kicks off, the City of Miami is proud to once again offer free tax preparation services to City residents, in partnership with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Beginning today, and continuing through April 16, Miami residents can take advantage of this free service by contacting City staff at any of the City’s eleven NET offices or at one of four designated “Super Sites”, which offer IRS representatives onsite.
