Miami, FL – Today, Congresswoman Wilson issued the following statement on the Supreme Court’s ruling on the White House’s effort to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program:

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell(FL-26), a member of the House Judiciary Committee, participated in a hearing to examine the crisis of racial profiling and police brutality, highlight a local South Florida instance of police brutality from March 2019, and discuss the need to implement civilian oversight boards.  

Today, Congresswoman Wilson hosted a forum titled “An Impending Crisis: COVID-19 in Haiti, Ongoing Instability, and the Dangers of Continued U.S. Deportations,” featuring House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Eliot Engel; Leonie Hermantin, Haitian community leader and director of Development, Communications, and Strategic Planning for the Sant La Haitian Neighborhood Center; Clarel Cyriaque, a practicing attorney who represents immigrants facing deportation; Dan Erikson, senior fellow at the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement and former special advisor to Vice President Joe Biden; Cate Oswald, chief policy and partnership officer for Partners in Health; and Jake Johnston, senior research associate at the Center for Economic and Policy Research. 

MIAMI-DADE – The Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners today passed a resolution recognizing the month of June as LGBTQ Pride Month – a time of celebration for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer community across the country.

Miami, FL –The Alex Penelas for Miami-Dade County Mayor 2020 campaign announced that Penelas has garnered the support of prominent Haitian American leaders from across Miami-Dade County. MIAMI-DADE – The Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners today passed a resolution urging the U.S. Congress and President Trump to declare Juneteenth a national holiday. Juneteenth is an annual celebration marking the end of slavery in the U.S.

Kennedy III (D-MA-04), led their colleagues in writing to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Office of Inspector General (OIG) and Office for Civil Rights and Civil Liberties (CRCL), requesting an investigation of a violent incident involving persons in immigration detention last week at the Bristol County House of Correction in North Dartmouth, Massachusetts.
